We were so excited when Sheryl Crow’s stylist contacted Nashelle requesting exclusive pieces to be made for Sheryl for her current tour promoting her new album 100 Miles from Memphis. We were honored to have an opportunity to be connected with a woman who not only is extremely talented but shows so much dedication to her children, leads a simple lifestyle, has the ability to be “real” and humble in a rock-star world and is actively involved with charities such as The Humane Society. It was the icing on the cake when Redbook, August 2010, featured Nashelle’s gold with chrysophase earrings and our green quartz gemstone earrings in an article with Sheryl Crow!! Sheryl you rock!

About a week ago, I began a contest titled “Daddy’s Little Girl” that would give our dedicated Nashelle supporters a chance to win a necklace if they submitted a photo and a description. I didn’t know what to expect and we didn’t want Father’s Day to go unrecognized by all of us at Nashelle. We loved reading the incredible stories and looking at the pictures from all of our Mother’s Day submissions so we thought we’d give it another chance for Father’s Day.

Again, the results were more than amazing! The stories….again…so moving. While all of them were so unique and beautiful to read there was definitely an overall theme of appreciation, dedication and love for Dads. I can’t possibly post all of the stories on our blog because there were so many, but these are a few. We hope that you enjoy reading them and thank you to everyone that shared your stories and photographs.

Joey Tillson, Ketchikan AK

My dad is the most amazing man in the world. A Vietnam Veteran who moved his family to a better place than what he grew up with, went to night school to work his way up the corporate ladder while providing for his five children and my mother. A Deputy Director of Corrections before retirement. When my mother was diagnosed with a brain tumor and pancreatitis, my dad was by her side.
A single mother struggling to care for my child and provide food on the table, a roof over our heads and good health for both my child and me. One day my dad says, “Joey, get your daughter and meet me in the car.” I loaded up my young 3 year old daughter. He took me to the store and proceeded to buy me $500.00 worth of groceries, knowing I was too proud to ask for help.
Now he is Post Commander for the VFW in Ketchikan, Alaska. He is also the Alaska Native Brotherhood President for our community. He is continually providing his love and support for others. He represents both veterans and his heritage to fight for the rights of his people. He meets with government officials to right the wrongs done from the past.
But above all else, he became my dad when my biological father was lost to addiction. He filled the shoes of a dad without genetically being obligated to do so. He became my dad out of love for my mother’s children. That is what makes him the best father in the world and everyday should be celebrated to honor him for the love and commitment he makes to others.
Joey Tillson

Callie Geser
I am Charlie Anne Geser, I am only 14 months old but am very much a daddy’s girl! I attached a picutre of me and daddy, Ryan. I am the cute one on his shoulders. Daddy flies helicopters for the Army and left for Afghanistan via Ft.Hood Texas yesterday and will be gone for 12 months so it’s just me and mommy for awhile. I know I am not old enough to wear your fabulous jewelry…but my mommy is!

Love,
Charlie Anne Geser

Valerie Hoffman, Rochester MN

I love this picture of my dad sledding down the hill because it captures the little kid in him. He’s going to be 77 this October and if you asked him, he’d say he doesn’t feel a day older than 30! He golfs everyday (even when it’s snowing…Yes, really!) and he still does backflips at the pool!! My dad is an amazing man–giving, loving, strong, sensitive–just what a little girl wants and needs her dad to be. Thanks, Dad!

Janice Herberger

This is a picture of my dad, Robert Alvarez, who died in 1970 when I was 16 years old. Kissed him goodnight, woke up in the morning to find him gone - my mother found him dead in bed, heart attack at 46 years old.

My father is/was special because those 16 years that I was blessed enough to have him totally formed the rest of my life and the person I turned out to be. He taught me more in 16 years than some parents teach their children in 70 years. He instilled in me values, morals, compassion, kindness. I miss him today as much as the day he died.

We didn’t have much money, but he worked 2 jobs to make sure we got everything we needed - and what we got most of all was love.

He’s always in my heart and I thank God for letting me “borrow” him for 16 years. Even though he’s gone, to me, Father’s Day is still for him, and he is still and always will be my father.

Marie Copher, Sacramento CA

My name is Marie Copher and I live in Sacramento CA. I sent you this picture because it is one of my favorite memories of going camping with my Dad. Although he is not pictured here (he was taking the photo of my sister and I - I’m the older one) some of my most cherished memories were of us camping with him. We never had the “appropriate gear” to go camping, but we had a tent, lots of blankets and a lot of ingenuity. My Dad taught me to enjoy life and to make the best of any situation. Lessons that I believe are true life lessons. For this, and much more, I am thankful for my Dad.

Thanks for the opportunity to give my Dad some well deserved props! =)

She has been by my side as my biggest fan and supporter for 40 years. Her daily encouragement and prayers helped me succeed in law school and become an attorney.

My mom is incredibly strong and brave. She is an eleven year breast cancer survivor. She has taught me to never give up.

She is kind, loving and dedicated. She is loved by many.

Not only is she the best “mother” anyone could ask for, she is the best “grandmother” to my three children.

I can only hope to be as influential in my own childrens lives as she is in mine.

My mom has been a great role model for me because she taught me how to enjoy life by showing me throughout my life. My mom worked constantly during my childhood to provide the best care for both my sister and I. Although she worked hard constantly, I remember my mom always had “girls” time with us and made summers special even though we weren’t going away for vacation. Our family never got to travel much during my childhood but we would talk about places or watch movies that take place in a foreign country. Now that both my sister and I have grown up with full time jobs; we are able to treat our mom to wonderful vacation places. I took my family to Barcelona, a place where my mom has always talked about amazing architecture. I couldn’t believe I was able to treat my mom back to something she’s always deserved! Seeing how happy my mom was to enjoy the trip with her family was pure happiness for me.

I have attached a photo of my mom and I in Barcelona; being a total tourist using a public fountain

My mom, JoAn, is 77, the first black and white photo was when she was 16 and the second is recent. Doesn’t she look fabulous!! She doesn’t wear makeup!! - she is still playing tennis, softball, volleyball and golf. She has always inspired me in sports; teaching me that giving up is never an option, work hard, persistence pays off, while still being a lady, juggling four kids, having a Register Nursing and artist career. These principals now flow into every area of my life and I am so proud of my mom! On top of it all, I think she is beautiful J I have aspired to be a great, active mom to my kids like the example she gave me. Happy Mother’s Day MOM- You’re the Best, I love you and I am so blessed because of you!

My mother, Ofelia, has never had an easy life, but she has never complained. She has always found the silver lining in any trying situation and kept a positive outlook. When she was a young girl, her mother, my grandmother had to make the biggest sacrifice imaginable…she had to send her to live in the United States with complete strangers because Fidel Castro had taken control of Cuba. My mother and her older sister were sent to live at a boarding school in Illinois through the “Operation Peter Pan”. They knew no one and didn’t know the language. They had to learn to eat strange foods like apple pie which my mom refused to eat every day until the last day she was at the school. She tried it and cried because she had refused it for a year! Today it is still her favorite dessert. It would be a year before my mom and aunt would be reunited with their mother. Eventually they moved to Jacksonville, Florida and finally to Miami.

My mom has always been a hard-worker. She never graduated from college, but her dedication and perseverance have led her to become a very successful and well-regarded professional in the healthcare business in South Florida. She has instilled in my brother and me the importance of having a good education, having good work ethics, being responsible for our actions, and being completely dedicated to our professions. Her goal in life has been to give my brother and me the best she possibly could. She worked tirelessly to provide for us as best she could as a single mother. She inspired us to be the best in everything we did. Needless to say, we both graduated from excellent high schools and colleges, and we both have careers we love. I am a fourth grade teacher and he is in politics.

Her unfaltering love, patience, and understanding have set a standard for me as a mother to 3 children (pictured with her this past November) which I hope and pray to duplicate each day.

My mom is not only a special mother. She is a special grandmother, a special friend, and a special mentor. She is my best friend, and I am blessed to be her daughter.

My mom, Janet Vos is a vibrant, active, unconditionally-loving mother and grandma. As is increasingly so these days, she raised her 3 children (my sister, Emily, my brother, Danny and me) as a single-working mother. She raised us to be confident, self-sufficient, caring people. She also taught us about respect for our bodies and our environment through healthy eating, caring for the earth and staying active outdoors and in. She is an open-minded, down-to-earth, loving, neurotic mother. I am infinitely thankful to have been born to her!

Thanks for sharing!

This is a picture of our mom with three of her granddaughters taken last mother’s day . The reason our mom is so special is because she loves with out conditions, she supports with all she has , she guides us with a soft hand . She inspires us to look for the positive in everything as even though she has lived the past 29 years with Multiple Sclerosis she has maintained a very positive attitude about life . Our Mom has influenced us in our lives with everything that makes her special and insperational , she has shown us how to raise our children (her seven grandchildren)and how to have a happy marriage (of course all of this with Dad by her side) and we are now raising her seven grandchildren with all she has passed our way. We love you MOM. love
